New And Returning Series Coming To ABC, CBS, FOX, And NBC In September

Broadcast’s fall TV season is almost upon us as the networks gear up to start a new television year with returning favorites and just two freshman titles in September. Most of their rosters have been reserved for October premiere dates, leading to this month’s offerings to be dominated by game shows and competition series like NBC’s The Traitors: New Blood.

The broadcast iteration of the hit Peacock original will be hosted by Alan Cumming but instead of celebrities trying to sabotage each other, it’ll be everyday people much like the long-running Survivor.

New Blood is one of two new programs debuting in September. The second is Line of Fire which is also airing on NBC. The series, which creator and showrunner Joshua Safran has referred to as “procedural Gossip Girl,” will see Peter Krause return to broadcast after his controversial exit from ABC’s 9-1-1.

The show puts Krause into the shoes of secret service agent, Mike Hollingsworth. Mike, along with his wife US Marshal Jane Hollingsworth (Hope Davis), lead a family of federal employees. Their children—FBI agent Clare (Kat Cunning), DOJ analyst Russ (Taylor Bloom), and secret service member Mike Jr. (Tommy O’Brien)—followed the same calling to protect their country that their parents answered.

The Hollingsworths have a code they’ve sworn never to break but when a clear cut investigation spirals into a conspiracy, they’re forced to cross boundaries and test their limits in order to protect each other as they search for the killer.

The rest of the scripted programming for September centers on returning series. ABC’s R.J. Decker and FOX’s Best Medicine, which were breakout midseason hits during the 2025-2026 TV season, are making their fall debuts with their sophomore runs. ABC’s Scrubs revival is also making its second outing after a successful midseason premiere.

Doc will return to FOX without its block companion Murder in a Small Town (it’s been held for 2027). The medical drama’s third season sees Blair Underwood reprise the role of Ben Grant as Amy (Molly Parker) tries to piece together her memories of him while settling into her new role as co-Chief Resident with Sonya (Anya Banerjee).
