Paxos, the blockchain infrastructure company, has unveiled details about its use of AI agents, dubbed Hoplites, to transform internal workflows. Operating directly within Slack, these agents now handle non-critical engineering tasks, automate incident response, and empower non-engineers to contribute to internal tools. This initiative has reportedly cut cycle times for pull requests and improved operational efficiency. As of July 2026, Hoplites accounts for 15% of all merged pull requests at Paxos, according to company disclosures.

The Hoplites system, integrated seamlessly into Slack, allows engineers and team members to invoke AI agents using simple commands like @Hoplites. Tasks once relegated to backlogs—such as minor bug fixes, cleaning up feature flags, and updating internal tooling—are now handled swiftly, freeing up engineers to focus on higher-priority projects. By eliminating the traditional ticketing process for simple changes, Paxos has significantly reduced the time between identifying and implementing fixes.

One standout feature is the ability for non-engineers to interact with Hoplites to improve internal tools. For example, operations and compliance teams can request and review updates to dashboards and tools via a dedicated agent profile, @pax-admin. This collaboration has enhanced visibility into Paxos’ products and enabled faster responses to growing operational demands, especially as the company expands across new jurisdictions.

Incident response has also seen a major overhaul. A specialized triage agent, activated through @triage, assists on-call engineers by automating key tasks such as severity assessments, root cause analyses, and retrospective documentation. This has reduced the cognitive load on responders, allowing them to focus on problem-solving rather than administrative tasks. Notably, 30% of Hoplites’ deployments are tied to triage workflows, highlighting the system’s critical role in maintaining operational stability.

Security remains a top priority for Paxos, especially given the increasing risks associated with AI-powered tools. Hoplites operates within strict boundaries: all agent-generated pull requests undergo the same review, continuous integration, and security checks as those authored by human engineers. Additionally, the system is sandboxed to prevent access to sensitive data, and all interactions are fully auditable, ensuring compliance with Paxos’ regulatory obligations.

The use of Hoplites aligns with broader industry trends. Slack has been positioning itself as an ‘agent-first’ workspace, rolling out tools to streamline AI integrations.
