Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan has renewed talk of a possible crypto token. He discussed an onchain asset during a fireside chat at TOKEN2049 in Singapore on October 7. The company says it has not announced any plans for an airdrop or token generation event.

Coplan spoke with Balaji Srinivasan about an asset with “real programmable utility” tied to the platform’s economy. He gave no details on how it would work. He also gave no launch date or method of distribution.

Bloomberg reports that Polymarket is weighing two paths. One is a traditional equity route, which could include an initial public offering. The other is a native token. As of mid-October 2026, the company has done neither.

Funding and valuation

Interest in a token grew before the conference. In early October, Coplan replied to a social media post that compared Polymarket’s revenue with the value of the Hyperliquid token. His reply hinted he might discuss the topic in Singapore. No token was shown at the event, which ran October 7 and 8.

Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, agreed in October 2025 to invest up to $2 billion in Polymarket. Reports put the company’s value at roughly $8 billion before that investment. ICE also planned to share Polymarket’s event data with institutional clients.

In March 2026, ICE completed a further $600 million investment under that deal. Reports in April placed Polymarket’s value near $15 billion. In August, reports said the company was seeking about $1 billion at a value above $20 billion. Those terms were not confirmed by a final company announcement.

Revenue is part of the picture. Polymarket’s annualized revenue is reported to be well above $1 billion. One report says it earned about $9.9 million over a single weekend, compared with $2.64 million for Hyperliquid.

Regulated US business

Polymarket bought QCEX in 2025 to operate under federal derivatives rules. The CFTC lists QCX LLC, which runs as Polymarket US, as a designated contract market. The original designation date was July 9, 2025.

The company runs its international site separately from the US app. Its June 2026 help center says US residents cannot trade on the international site. They must use Polymarket US, which has its own accounts and support.

The CFTC recorded certified rulebook changes for Polymarket US in April 2026, after a March filing. Polymarket has also hired senior staff from traditional finance. Some reports read this as groundwork for a possible IPO.

Several token details remain unknown. Polymarket has not shared a token name, ticker, supply or contract address. It has not said whether past trading would count toward rewards. Reports say the company has registered trademarks for POLY and $POLY, but that does not show a token exists.

As of October 14, Polymarket has not announced an IPO filing, a listing date or a token plan. Its published documentation does not describe a token distribution for either its international or US service.
