What to know:

  • Pump.fun reportedly laid off over 40 employees before $86 million in PUMP token grants vested.
  • The platform generates nearly $1 million daily and has produced approximately $1.3 billion in cumulative revenue.
  • Despite controversy, PUMP gained 9.34% to $0.002207, with $187 million daily trading volume.

Pump.fun, the Solana-based memecoin launchpad, reportedly dismissed more than 40 employees across two rounds of layoffs shortly before their PUMP token grants were scheduled to vest.

An investigative report by Sandmark claims the layoffs involved the people who qualified for their token allocations, as discussed and agreed upon in June 2025. Pump.fun has yet to give any reaction to the allegations.

According to the report, the first layoff wave took place in April 2026 while the second one happened in mid-July. Workers laid off in the first wave reportedly lost their tokens that were supposed to be unlocked in June 2026. One of the laid-off workers stated that the value of the forfeited tokens was worth millions of dollars when they were supposed to vest.

Pump.fun Token Compensation Raises Employee Concerns

The timing is raising concerns due to the fact that it has become a growing trend to compensate cryptocurrency company workers with tokens rather than cash. Vesting schedules ensure workers have motivation and commitment to stick with their employer to grow together. Workers who are let go will lose their unvested tokens.

Pump.fun has emerged as one of Solana’s highest-revenue applications. The platform generates a daily income of about $1 million and a total income of $1.3 billion so far. It became the most popular memecoin launchpad in Solana, which increased the platform’s activity and drew developers and speculators to the ecosystem.

Allegations come amid other issues that Pump.fun is facing. In 2024, a case of fraud involving an insider stealing $2 million worth of tokens. More recently, the company reportedly received a regulatory penalty in the United Kingdom after failing to meet required accounting filing obligations, adding to concerns over corporate governance.

PUMP Token Shows Resilience Despite Controversy

Despite the reported layoffs, the PUMP token posted gains during the day the news surfaced. PUMP is trading around $0.002207, rising 9.34% over 24 hours, with daily trading volume reaching approximately $187 million and a market capitalization near $875 million. However, the token remains roughly 77% below its September 2025 peak.

The reported layoffs could influence confidence among current employees, prospective hires, and token holders, particularly as crypto firms increasingly rely on equity- or token-based incentives.

While no regulatory investigation has been announced, market participants may watch for an official response from Pump.fun, clarification regarding employee compensation policies, and whether the controversy affects recruitment, governance practices, or long-term confidence in one of Solana’s largest revenue-generating platforms.
