Tornado Cash co-founder and developer Roman Storm is going to have his retrial delayed until April 26, 2027, as per a US federal court’s ruling that delayed his retrial from October 26, 2026. This ruling was made in view of the pending motion by Storm for acquittal on the charges.
As per an order issued by US district judge Katherine Polk Failla, the case will be postponed in view of Storm’s pending motion for acquittal.
The lawyers for Storm asked for a delay on August 3, stating that they would require 90 days to prepare themselves even after the ruling is made regarding the motion for acquittal.

Tornado Cash Case Moves Toward Another Trial
The lawsuit revolves around the involvement of Storm in the creation of Tornado Cash, a crypto mixer that was created to increase privacy in blockchain transactions.
The US prosecutors petitioned the court in March to have a trial set for October due to the Manhattan jury being unable to return a unanimous verdict on two of the charges against Storm. The charges include conspiracy to launder money and violating US sanctions.
The trial will cover the two charges if Storm’s appeal is denied.
The US government has claimed that Storm, along with others, developed such services that were used to transfer and hide the cryptocurrencies used for illegal purposes. However, the defense has rebutted this claim on the grounds that the prosecutors could not prove that he had any intention to assist the criminals.
Storm Challenges 2025 Conviction
In August 2025, Storm was found guilty by a Manhattan jury of conspiracy to conduct a money transmission business without a license. This crime is punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment.
Nevertheless, the jury could not reach a verdict on the charges of money laundering and sanctions violations.
Subsequently, the prosecutors filed for a retrial on the latter counts.
Later, Storm moved the court for acquittal on all three charges, his attorneys contending that the government had not shown him guilty of knowing assistance to criminals using Tornado Cash.
In this way, the result of this motion will decide the fate of the 2027 retrial that has been planned. In case the judge allows the acquittal motion, it will not be necessary to conduct this retrial. Otherwise, Storm will get some more time to prepare for this trial.
It should be noted that Storm has commented on this situation on X.
“The decision on my acquittal request is still pending,” said Storm on Tuesday. “Honestly, I don’t even know when this will all end.”
The dispute surrounding Tornado Cash has gotten much attention within the crypto community since this might affect how US agencies approach developers of decentralized anonymous software and their accountability.
