President Donald Trump says his administration will create an “AI Force” and appoint a new artificial intelligence adviser as the U.S. government increases its focus on the rapidly growing technology.
Trump announced the plan in a Truth Social post on Saturday.
🇺🇸🇺🇸 BREAKING: Trump announces the creation of an “AI Force” modeled after the Space Force and says he will appoint an “AI czar.”

He compared the proposed organization with the Space Force, which was established during his first term.
Trump said a new AI “czar” would be announced in the near future. Reuters reported that the person would serve as a new artificial intelligence adviser.
Details of Trump’s AI Force Remain Unclear
Trump did not explain how the AI Force would operate.
🇺🇸 PRESIDENT TRUMP JUST NOW:

2. AI could eventually represent as much as 25% of U.S. GDP.

No budget, staffing plans or formal responsibilities have been announced.
It is also unclear whether the organization would operate as a government agency, advisory group or another type of federal body.
The White House had not provided further details when Reuters reported on the announcement.
Trump said his administration wants to support AI development rather than introduce rules that could slow the industry.
His comments continue a position he expressed earlier in September, when he argued that existing laws and government powers could address harmful uses of AI without broad new restrictions.
The new adviser would follow venture capitalist David Sacks, who previously served in an AI policy role before stepping down earlier this year. Reuters reported that Sacks continues to advise the administration externally.
AI Safety Debate Continues
Trump’s announcement comes as leading AI companies, researchers and policymakers debate how quickly more capable systems should be developed.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for slowing the pace at which AI capabilities improve while stronger safeguards are developed.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk have expressed support for greater caution, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has argued against slowing technological development.
Amazon has also called for rigorous testing and safeguards before advanced models are released, while stopping short of supporting an industry-wide slowdown.
AI policy is also becoming part of talks between Washington and Beijing.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent proposed an AI safety notification mechanism during discussions with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in New York this weekend.
The proposal could allow the two countries to share information about serious AI incidents and national security threats.
Those discussions are taking place ahead of a planned meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
For now, Trump’s AI Force remains a proposal without a publicly announced structure or leader. The president has said he will name the new AI adviser in the near future, but no appointment date has been confirmed.
