Twilio Inc. (NYSE: TWLO) shares slipped as investors balanced the company’s strong second-quarter performance against concerns that the stock’s valuation had moved ahead of its near-term growth prospects. While the communications software provider delivered a better-than-expected earnings report and lifted its full-year outlook, some market participants remained cautious following the sharp after-hours rally that pushed the stock closer to analyst price targets.
The company’s latest results marked a significant improvement from the challenges it faced after the same period last year. Twilio shares previously fell sharply after its second-quarter report in 2025 despite beating expectations, as investors questioned the company’s growth trajectory. This time, stronger revenue momentum and improved profitability helped rebuild confidence, although valuation concerns have emerged as a key debate among shareholders.
Strong Quarter Boosts Investor Confidence
Twilio reported second-quarter revenue of $1.499 billion, exceeding analyst expectations of approximately $1.430 billion. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $1.47, surpassing forecasts of $1.32. Revenue growth accelerated to 22% year over year, while organic revenue growth reached 17%.
The company also showed improvement in customer expansion trends. Twilio’s dollar-based net expansion rate increased to 116%, compared with 108% a year earlier, suggesting stronger customer retention and increased spending from existing users.
Free cash flow also strengthened during the quarter, rising 34% to $352.6 million. The company reported a free cash flow margin of 24%, up from 21% during the same period last year.
Chief Executive Khozema Shipchandler highlighted the company’s improving operating performance, pointing to continued organic growth acceleration and record profitability as key drivers behind the quarter’s results.
Guidance Upgrade Drives Market Reaction
Beyond the quarterly numbers, Twilio’s updated outlook became the main focus for investors. The company raised its 2026 revenue growth forecast from a previous range of 14%-15% to 18%-18.5%. Organic revenue growth expectations were also increased to 13%-13.5%, compared with the prior estimate of 9.5%-10.5%.
Twilio also boosted its non-GAAP operating income and free cash flow guidance. The company now expects free cash flow between $1.135 billion and $1.155 billion, representing an increase from the previous $1.080 billion to $1.100 billion range.
The improved outlook helped fuel a strong after-hours reaction, with shares jumping more than 16% after the earnings release. However, the stock’s subsequent decline reflected concerns that much of the positive news may already be reflected in the share price.
Valuation Raises Investor Questions
Despite Twilio’s operational improvements, valuation has become a major factor influencing sentiment. Following the after-hours move, the company’s implied enterprise value reached about $33.72 billion, compared with approximately $28.82 billion before the earnings announcement.
Based on updated free cash flow expectations, Twilio’s enterprise value-to-free cash flow multiple increased to roughly 29.4 times from around 26.4 times before the report.
Some investors believe the higher valuation requires Twilio to maintain strong execution, especially as third-quarter organic growth expectations remain below the second quarter’s performance. The company forecast third-quarter organic growth of 11%-12%, compared with the 17% reported in Q2.
The stock’s move has also brought it closer to Wall Street price targets. The average target among several analysts stands near $241, implying limited upside after the post-earnings surge.
For now, Twilio’s improved financial outlook provides a positive foundation, but the market’s focus has shifted from whether the company can recover to whether it can continue growing fast enough to support its current valuation.
