The Multicoin team is growing. Today, I’m pleased to announce that Mason Nystrom has joined Multicoin Capital as an Investment Partner.
Mason has spent nearly a decade working across every seat in crypto that matters for a venture investor: operator, analyst, and allocator. He joins us from Pantera Capital, where he invested across the firm’s venture and growth portfolios. Before Pantera, he was an investor at Variant, and before that a Senior Research Analyst at Messari, where he published some of the best research (in our humble opinion) on consumer crypto, DeFi, and crypto infrastructure. Before that, he started his career on the operating side at ConsenSys.
Most investors come to crypto from one direction: finance, startups, or media. Mason hails from all of them. He learned how crypto companies actually ship products at ConsenSys, how to evaluate protocols on fundamentals at Messari, and how to underwrite founders and markets at Variant and Pantera. The result is an investor who can move fluidly between token models, market structure, and go-to-market strategy, which is exactly how we evaluate opportunities at Multicoin.
Mason’s public work speaks for itself. He has been on the same cap tables as us on multiple deals, including one of our most recent investments in Novig. Through his newsletter, Unsyndicated, and podcasting at Stateful, he has also built a strong personal brand and developed some of the clearest thinking in the industry on stablecoins, tokenization, prediction markets, and the application layer of crypto. These are not adjacent interests for us—they sit at the center of our current investment thesis. We believe blockchains are the first-principles-correct technology to move money, coordinate and program capital formation, and power global financial markets, and Mason has spent years mapping the space and identifying great opportunities early. He’s operated through every market we care about; he’s a missionary exemplar.
At Multicoin, Mason will focus on venture investments across stablecoins, consumer applications, and the next wave of financial infrastructure. He’ll be sharing his first post shortly, which will detail the new areas of interest he’s focused on. So stay tuned for that.
