Hut 8 is gaining attention after its Texas data center became part of an artificial intelligence computing agreement involving Anthropic, Lambda and Nvidia. The development connects the bitcoin miner’s power infrastructure with one of the largest AI capacity deals announced this year.

Hut 8 Texas Site Joins Anthropic AI Deal

Anthropic agreed to spend $35 billion on computing capacity from Lambda, an AI cloud company backed by Nvidia. Part of that computing power will come from Hut 8’s Beacon Point campus in Nueces County, Texas.

Nvidia holds the lease at the site, while Lambda plans to operate Nvidia chips there. Anthropic will then purchase computing capacity produced at the facility. Hut 8 shares rose after the report before giving back most of the gain in pre-market trading.

Hut 8 previously disclosed two 15-year leases at Beacon Point covering 704 megawatts of IT capacity. The company did not identify the tenant when it announced the agreements. Those leases carry $19.6 billion in contracted value over their terms.

The Beacon Point campus spans 525 acres and has access to as much as 1 gigawatt of power. Hut 8 has an existing grid connection at the site, which gives the facility access to power needed for computing operations.

Bitcoin Miners Expand Into AI Infrastructure

Bitcoin miners have become more active in AI data center deals because they already control power sites. Building new high-capacity connections can take years, while mining companies often have land, power access and operating infrastructure in place.

Hut 8 joins TeraWulf, IREN and Bitdeer in signing or supporting large AI computing projects. Public bitcoin miners had already secured more than $70 billion in AI and high-performance computing contracts by March, as mining economics pushed companies toward new revenue sources.

Hut 8 reported quarterly revenue of $74.93 million in June, up 81% from a year earlier. The company expects its two Beacon Point leases to support an average of $1.31 billion in annual operating income once the campus becomes fully operational.

Other miners are following similar paths. TeraWulf agreed to provide Anthropic with about 401 megawatts in Kentucky, while Bitdeer signed a $4.7 billion agreement in Norway. Microsoft also committed about $9.7 billion for AI capacity from IREN’s Texas data centers.
