What to know:

  • XRP Ledger integrated Mastercard’s Verifiable Intent standard, enabling secure, verified AI-powered payments through x402 Facilitator.
  • The upgrade verifies payment authorization, spending limits, and purchase details before every AI transaction executes securely.
  • Ripple joined Mastercard’s Agent Pay for Machines program, advancing autonomous AI payments using XRP and RLUSD.

XRP Ledger continues moving closer to increasing AI payments by implementing Mastercard’s Verifiable Intent (VI) standard by t54.ai, which added support for x402 Facilitator for XRP Ledger. This upgrade helps facilitate the processing of payments through the XRP Ledger using AI with authorization and verification of risks involved before transaction completion.

This is an announcement made by @t54.ai on X, which shows yet another step towards the emerging agentic economy that runs on the XRP Ledger and allows autonomous AI agents to pay without needing any accounts.

XRP Ledger Integrates Mastercard Verifiable Intent

x402 Facilitator was deployed on the XRP Ledger in February 2026 and allows AI agents to purchase online digital goods and services through XRP and RLUSD without needing an API key or an account.

Through the latest upgrade, developers are now able to add the Mastercard Verifiable Intent (VI) credential to the x402 payment. According to t54.ai, this cryptographic token proves that the payment has been verified in three ways – who authorized the payment, spending cap, and what is being purchased.

Each payment request is automatically scrutinized using the XRPL Facilitator’s inbuilt risk engine, ensuring the transactions are properly authorized before being executed.

The organization revealed that Verifiable Intent is based on the Mastercard Agentic Payments system. This provides all necessary data for processing autonomous transactions created through AI-powered entities.

Mastercard Pushes AI Payment Standards

As more automation is carried out through artificial intelligence, the need arises to develop an appropriate system that would facilitate machine-to-machine transactions.

In this regard, Mastercard has come up with Agent Pay for Machines (AP4M), a payment mechanism that would allow machines to make authorized payments on behalf of humans on the Mastercard global payment network.

Ripple has partnered with Mastercard for its Agent Pay for Machines program, which it started participating in from June 2026.

XRP Ledger Surpasses 1.4 Million Agentic Transactions

The release also pointed out the fast-paced development within the payment ecosystem of the XRP Ledger. As reported by t54.ai, there are over 1.4 million agentic transactions that have now been processed using its x402 Facilitator in the XRPL.

Speaking in response to this achievement, the Head of Engineering at RippleX, J. Akinyele, likened the current state of artificial intelligence payment infrastructure to the beginnings of cloud computing.

Akinyele stated that eventually, AI agents will require payment systems that would function as seamlessly as the process they use currently for exchanging information over the network.

Furthermore, he also mentioned that while reaching the milestone of processing a million transactions is certainly commendable, the technology is currently in the initial stage of its development.

From his quote posted on X, it is evident that the XRP Ledger is just beginning to show the potential of AI-powered payments.
