XRP Ledger Reveals Next Mainnet Upgrade, Version 3.2.0 To Go Live

Today, XRP Ledger Operations announced that XRP Ledger version 3.2.0 is soon to be deployed in the near future. Now, the Ripple-backed XRPL ecosystem is preparing for its next mainnet upgrade.

XRP Ledger Eyes Another Mainnet Upgrade

On Thursday, June 4, the team announced in a post on X, “XRP Ledger 3.2.0 is coming soon!” Moreover, they announced an important modification to the main software of the network. The announcement states that the “The core software powering the XRPL is changing its name from rippled to xrpld.”

All infrastructure providers, validators and node operators will need to make updates to their infrastructure before the migration to the new XRPL mainnet. The XRP Ledger Operations team added, “This transition will require some updates for infrastructure operators.”

Furthermore, the XRP Ledger Operations team revealed that a playbook is under works to help with the updating process. In the post, they used a GIF is used to announce the transition.

The command line prompt appears to be replaced by the new software name ‘xrpled’ with a version check that reads ‘xrpld version 3.2.0’. The visual also showcases the re-branding of the software package which drives the XRP Ledger. Further, it highlights the new version due to be released.

The news was well received by dUNL validator Vet, who emphasized the need for protocol development even amidst market volatility.

“Market sentiment is temporary, but the core protocol improvements that our $XRP and other assets live on are permanent,” Vet wrote. He went on to spotlight that “in this upcoming upgrade the major name transition from rippled to xrpld will happen.”

He also thanked the network developers. For this, the XRP Ledger validator added, “Grateful for the consistent work of all the XRP core developers.”

About The Recent Network Update

The new version 3.2.0 come on the heels of successful activation of XRP Ledger version 3.1.3 on the mainnet at ledger index 104,507,137 on May 27. The upgrade allowed for the amendment of fixCleanup3_1_3 and was intended to increase the long-term reliability of the network.

At the time, the XRP Ledger required nodes with older versions of software to upgrade to join the consensus and network operations. Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz addressed key queries around the upgrade as major amendments passed with a 100% consensus vote.
