Hedera’s proposed AI payment accounts could generate activity without making HBAR the currency agents actually spend. That distinction drives a video from the Bullrunners host, who argues that investors should focus on how much demand reaches the token—not simply whether autonomous payments take off.
According to the video, Hedera Hashgraph’s “agent accounts” would let software spend from a user’s account within predefined rules, without gaining control of the user’s private keys. Owners could restrict recipients, set spending caps and require approval for larger transactions.
The payments may run on USDC
The accounts would support HBAR, USDC and other Hedera tokens. That flexibility could help attract businesses, but it weakens the assumption that growing payment volumes necessarily mean agents holding substantial amounts of HBAR.
Bull Runners cite a Keyrock study covering roughly 176 million agent transactions worth $73 million. Some 98.6% settled in USDC, while 76% were below the cited 30-cent card-processing fee floor—small payments for which conventional payment fees can be uneconomic.
HBAR coin would still be needed to pay Hedera network fees, even when an agent transfers USDC. Those fees are denominated in dollars and paid in HBAR, giving businesses predictable costs but limiting the token demand generated by each transaction.
Using an illustrative fee assumption, Bull Runners estimate that 10,000 agents making 100 payments each day could generate about $365,000 in annual HBAR fees. Against the video’s cited $3.7 billion token valuation, that is a modest figure.
A 2027 launch target, not live adoption
The product remains a development story. The Youtube video clip describes limited partner testing before a public testnet in early 2027, with mainnet targeted for the second quarter of 2027, subject to security review and legal approval.
Hedera’s planned compatibility with Coinbase’s x402 payment standard could help it reach existing services. It does not establish that those payments will move onto HBAR Network rather than competing networks.
