Ledger Unveils $849 Crypto Security Device Amid $93M Wallet Scandal

Ledger has introduced a smartphone-shaped security device just as the hardware wallet manufacturer faces scrutiny over a suspected $93 million cryptocurrency theft involving modified devices. Unveiled Thursday at the company’s Op3n event in Paris, the $849 Ledger Atom combines Android applications, Solana Mobile integration and hardware protections designed to detect physical tampering.

The catch is that Atom won’t ship until 2027, leaving customers to weigh the company’s ambitious security promises against an ongoing investigation into compromised wallets distributed through third-party resellers.

Android Meets Hardware-Level Crypto Security

Atom features a 6.77-inch OLED display, Qualcomm Dragonwing processor and an EAL6+ secure element running Ledger OS alongside Android. An isolated security environment handles sensitive approvals, while dedicated hardware separates transaction signing from ordinary applications. Ledger Chairman and CEO Pascal Gauthier described the company’s changing ambitions.

Gauthier stated:

Tokenmetrics

“For years, our customers have been asking us for a Ledger phone. Today, we answer. Not with another phone. With something new. The world’s first device built to protect everything you value.”

Solana Mobile’s Seeker application comes preinstalled, providing access to more than 1,500 decentralized applications. Ledger also integrates Openclaw and its Agent Intent system, allowing users to authorize transactions proposed by artificial intelligence agents.

Ian Rogers, Ledger’s chief human agency officer, said the Seeker integration “just makes sense, so Ledger users get access to the Solana ecosystem without giving up any of the security.”

A $93 Million Shadow Over the Launch

The announcement follows reports of compromised Ledger wallets distributed through Cryptobilis, a reseller operating in Southeast Asia. Onchain investigators estimated losses approaching $93 million, although Ledger has not confirmed that figure. Alongside this it is suspected that manipulated Ledger devices may extend beyond Southeast Asia and into Europe.

Ledger acknowledged finding an unauthorized hardware implant inside one affected device. Atom introduces independently powered tamper sensors, enclosure protections and direct-only sales intended to address similar attacks. The Founder’s Edition costs $849 with a refundable $100 reservation deposit. Standard pricing rises to $899, with deliveries expected in summer 2027.

For Ledger, the immediate challenge is selling tomorrow’s security architecture while questions about the supply chain compromise remain unresolved.
