Ripple CEO Garlinghouse Urges Lawmakers to Pass the CLARITY Act

“Proud to be in the room. Making America the crypto capital of the world is within reach — let’s finish the job,” Garlinghouse said in a post on X, signaling his continued support for efforts to establish the United States as a global leader in digital assets.

The Ripple CEO’s remarks followed comments from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Michael Selig, who thanked President Donald Trump for bringing together prominent figures from the crypto, technology, and financial sectors at the White House. Selig said the administration was focused on ensuring that the “new frontier of finance” takes shape in the United States, reinforcing Washington’s push to establish the country as a global leader in digital assets.

Meanwhile, a major regulatory showdown is looming in the US, as lawmakers prepare to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act in September.

U.S. Crypto Industry Faces a Defining Test With Imminent CLARITY Act Vote

The CLARITY Act has hit several roadblocks as lawmakers remain divided over issues including ethics requirements, decentralized finance rules, consumer safeguards, and rewards tied to stablecoins. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has long pressed for the legislation to move forward, arguing that major Wall Street institutions and banks are increasingly embracing crypto and its underlying technology.

The next major test is just 11 days away. On September 15, the Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on whether to advance the CLARITY Act to formal debate. Notably, the House will have just four days in session after the Senate vote, leaving lawmakers with a narrow window to review, reconcile, and potentially pass the Senate’s version of the bill.

The legislation could be particularly significant for companies like Ripple, as it would create a clearer and more defined regulatory framework for crypto businesses operating in the United States. Crucially, those rules could be harder for a future administration to reverse.

After years of uncertainty and regulatory battles over which rules should govern digital assets, passage of the market structure bill could provide the crypto industry with much-needed clarity and greater long-term certainty.
